Augusta Attractions

 augustra beachfront accommodation

This is the Augusta Boat Harbour from upstairs at 1 Storm Bay Road.

The Boat Harbour is definately worth a look. This is how one of the locals described it:

"Being a local I often see people stop at an attraction, take a quick look around and then leave because they think there's nothing worth looking at. Oh dear! If only they'd spend a bit more time to 'get the vibe' of a place, they might be surprised at what's actually there. For instance, the Augusta Boat Harbour has more than boat pens, a safe place to moor a boat and a stunning location. There's also a small, but well placed viewing platform just after entering the entry road, so park in the first parking area and walk about 50 metres along the path to the right. Gaze out to sea, looking for dolphins and whales (in season*), fishing boats and more. Look carefully down onto the rocks and you may spot a seal or two. Look up and see a huge variety of birds from pelicans to cormorants and gulls. Take a walk along the outer harbour wall path and check out the abalone boats and various other vessels. If you need to use the toilet, go ahead, and have a chuckle about how breezy it is inside the cubicles. That wind is coming straight off the southern ocean, possibly the cleanest air you'll ever breath if it's come from Antarctica. And if you want to explore further, there's a terrific walking path that links the harbour to Flinders Bay. Oh! almost forgot to mention that although the cafe facilities haven't been built yet, there is often a little coffee van serving great coffee near the beautifully maintained picnic area and barbeque facilities. *During the whale migration season, there are several Whale Watching Boats that operate out of Augusta Harbour."

The Augusta Boat Harbour is located on Flinders Bay, less than 5km south of the township. It is cited as the only established boating facility located along the 430 kilometres of coastline between Busselton and Albany that can provide safe, short term facilities for commercial and recreational boats. Construction was completed in 2014 at a cost in excess of $36m cost from the State Government "Royalties for Regions" scheme. There are approximately 750 metres of breakwaters, boat launching facilities, a service wharf, boat pens, navigation aids, car-and-trailer parking facilities, amenities buildings and a pavilion, seating and tables, bike racks and 24hr CCTV. It is an excellent engineering construction.

See one or all of these stunning caves Mammoth Cave; Lake Cave; Jewel Cave or Ngiligi (pronounced ‘nilgi’) at Yallingup. A drive along Caves Road will open up these caves for you. Believe it or not there are some 150 limestone caves beneath the surface of this area.
